Sanborn fire insurance maps

The Sanborn Map Company mapped American towns block by block for fire insurers from 1867: each building's outline, what it was built of, its floors and use. They are the best record of what stood on a street in a given year. Each result here is a volume, with its sheets listed on its page.

Why they are free to use: Sanborn maps published before 1931 are out of copyright in the US. Each map's page shows its own licence basis and a credit line.
