Shuntian also known as Quinzay
Cities, plate 1 of 2
Xuntien alias Quinzay: A fanciful map of Hangzhou, China, embellishing the earlier nonsense of Andre Thevet (1516 1590)'s map of Quinsaï in the 1575 Universal Cosmography (Cosmographie Universelle). Quinzay is a name derived from Marco Polo's Travels, but neither map attempts to include any major elements of his account of Yuan-era Hangzhou. Shuntian was a Ming and Qing-era name of the capital district around Beijing and never had anything to do with Hangzhou in any era.
