Melinda in Melinda chart 1873
Detail from Plan of Malindi in Kenya undertaken by George K Gordon (Sub Lieutenant) under Captain George Malcolm, HMS Briton (Royal Navy), 29 April 1873. Annotations indicate that the map is a corrected (i.e. updated) version of earlier Admiralty charts (667 and 1811) from earlier in the 19th century. Malcolm's signature confirms the corrections. Differences include the indication of the area of the modern town (re-founded c.1860), the location of a 'flaggstaff' in the town, the area of the 'Ruins of Ancient City' and what may be the line of ancient fortifications.
