Kilpatrick Cavalry at Gettysburg
The map shows the southern portion of the Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) battlefield, in the United States of America. On July 3, 1863, a division of Union cavalry commanded by Brigadier General Judson Kilpatrick was located on the south side, while Confederate forces from Texas and Alabama were positioned north and west. Kilpatrick ordered Brigadier General Elon J. Farnsworth to charge his cavalry brigade across terrain difficult for effective use of cavalry, and Farnsworth was killed.
