Eighteenth-century map of Gozo by the Capuchin Friar Luigi Bartolo. At the foot of the map is a key to 79 place names and as can be seen, settlements around Gozo had grown mainly because new towers were built to protect the island such as the Garzes Tower, Marsalforn Tower, and Xlendi Tower.
