Darton 1817
The river Thames in central London c.1815 with its existing embankments (thick black line). The width of the river is highly irregular. Notice the enormous mudbank near Waterloo Bridge. There are no coastal roads except at Millbank and Bankside. In some places no embankments have been made since it would interfere with local industries e.g. boatbuilding.
