1647 - Isaac La Peyrère - 1 full

Map of Greenland, Hudson Strait (Destroit Christian) and Hudson Bay (Mer Christiane) by French writer Isaac La Peyrère, based on Danish explorer Jens Munk's map of his 1619-20 Northwest Passage expedition, published in his voyage account Navigatio Septentrionalis (1624). La Peyrère's version of the map was published in his book Relation du Groenland (1647), wich includes an abstract of Munk's Navigatio. La Peyrère's abstract and map enjoyed a wider circulation than Munk's original but were disfigured by numerous inaccuracies, a prime example being the wrong latitude at which is placed Munk's Winter Harbour (Port d'hyuer de Munck), about five degrees too far north, an error that following mapmakers would perpetuate for decades. {{Quote
